Text:
You and Sirshana ascended the steps of the Lapis Lazuli Court together. Sirshana strided ahead as the restored king while you followed half a step behind as his great supporter.
The blood beneath your boots had not yet dried. The banners in the hall still bore the colors of the last Sultan's reign. Yet the courtiers crowding around you had already scrambled into the long robes of the old kingdom, though beneath the hems, the telltale edges of the previous regime's garments still peeked out, hastily concealed. They whispered among themselves, rehearsing new phrases: No Sultan rules here now, the King has returned!
At your counsel, Shirshina rebuilt the realm in the his memory of the lost kingdom, from the architecture of the palaces, to the cut of women's skirts, to the meter of court poetry. Everything was made to evoke nostalgia. He shared power with you and other high lords, reuniting the territories fragmented by the Sultans, weaving the old web of checks and balances between the great houses.
Overnight, noblewomen changed their hairstyles. Children's rhymes in the streets shifted melody. The altars of the Purist quietly gave way to the shrines of the Star-Souled. The reigns of the two Sultans seemed to have left no mark...
Or perhaps no king should expect to carve his name into history, like even the finest sculptor cannot chisel the wind...
And that, at least, was fair.
