Text:

When you toppled the previous Sultan, the Nobles assumed changing rulers meant no more than replacing one jackal with another and revising the preface of lofty compositions. However, when the new Sultan began enacting a series of reforms, they progressed from amazement to anger and finally seethed with hatred.

You demanded the removal of noble privileges, especially exclusive business rights, seeking open competition across all industries. This equated to extracting funds from noble pockets, their largest gains sprouting from these privileged business sectors. Such as Brothels (Ms. Buthayna must've paid a fortune, endured numerous tears and sweat for a license to start the House of Delights!) and gambling houses, in addition to silk dyeing workshops and Gold processing endeavors.

This was unacceptable. For the power holders who benefited from the setup, the country didn't require a progressive Sultan... you were just too bothersome.

In your second month of ascension, a sudden conflagration occurred on one side of the capital. The flames spread sharply, and even within the palace grounds, you could see the sky-high blaze, and groups tasked to extinguish the flames all failed at their attempts.

The incident seemed too strange for the blaze to continue unchecked. Just as you prepared to personally investigate, Alim barged into the Lapis Lazuli Hall with a gang of scoundrels tied up and bound, dragging along some sooty, singed individuals. Their blackened faces and the burnt wooden scent spoke for themselves.

"I've brought you something, oh exalted Sultan..." Alim performed an exaggerated court gesture—"heh, heh, heh... my pups in the city noticed a few individuals lugging oil drums toward the fiery spots... some others reported that these folks were spotted wandering around the Dark Alley with saturated heavy cloaks. Later, one streetwalker recognized one of them as a client, one who recently came into a windfall and bragged about doing something grand to change the country..."

He placed a foot gently on the bound person's body, looking down at him with affection and care.

"Our friends here planned to ignite around the armory, hoping the royal guards would get diverted to extinguish the fire so they could sneak into the palace and attempt regicide, correct? Perhaps if fortune smiles upon them, awaiting the Sultan to oversee the fire-fighting efforts firsthand would be convenient, am I right?"

Listening to him sent a chill up your spine... afterward, you sincerely thanked Alim.

"No need to thank me, oh esteemed Sultan, not at all! It is this city's inconspicuous and humble folks aiding you, for you regard them as humans! They are your inconspicuous friends!"

He waved it off with a smile. Those ash-covered pups proudly pulled back their shoulders.

This marked the last gasp of the dissent nobles, executed under the charge of attempted regicide, securing your throne.
