Text:
At last you ended the Sultan's Game. The people who supported you gazed up, waiting to see what rule would begin under your hand.
Your first act was to wipe fear from their faces. You commanded all messengers to proclaim that your realm would no longer be ruled through terror. You wished for all to stretch their body and mind without fear for their life. You wanted your people to create, to labor, to revel, to love, to rejoice. The suffering of others would stir only your compassion and remorse. Never would you poke people’s bleeding wounds with a stick as the last Sultan had done.
Then you summoned your Vizier, you told him you would abolish slavery throughout the empire. These former slaves would toil as free men, for their own happiness. Next, you announced the formation of a Noble Council, where each noble's voice would be weighted by the number of freemen in his domain.
Those who emancipated their slaves soonest would hold greater sway.
You crushed the nobles' resistance while showering them with favors. You lifted up the oppressed while quietly pruning away the rotten among them. You killed many, indeed, but with these deaths you bought a new world. You did not know if the price was fair. Or perhaps... all necessary deeds were fair.
The freed craved for more. The dispossessed challenge your authority. Balancing these forces is like drawing a line between desire and humanity.
Yet you succeed. You dance upon that razor's edge, never falling into the abyss of indulgence, nor the inferno of tyranny.
