The world was shattered by the Corrupter, ground into ink to feed His stains, into mire to fill His depths...



Souls are trapped in the filth, tearing at each other, lost in waking dreams, wailing and screaming. When the Creator first forged this world, He scooped but a single ladle from such a pit and cast it into existence, and that mere spoonful birthed all this chaos!



Many years have passed.



Then came a silver, egg-shaped vessel of metal, circling long above the ruins of the old empire, spewing pale smoke. It dared not land to the earth that thick with a black, gelatinous substance. And if one looked close, the things trapped within seemed to twitch. So instead, the machine extended a slender cable from its belly, probing deep into the mire.



Had you understood the tongue of Andromeda M32-145γ, you would have heard the small, gray figures with their vast black eyes, murmuring in confusion...



"Traces of a pre-civilization?"



"Perhaps... It's saturated with violent brainwaves, countless brainwaves. Billions. Tens of billions. The things in this gel... they're still alive!"



"Alive? And... what is this gel?"



"Mire."



"What?"



"The signals from the probe... The brainwaves are answering, all at once - 'This is the world. The god's world.'"



"You.you mean this thing is aware of us?!"



"Ascend! Launch! Flee!"
