Poetry's Freedom
The eunuch had browsed through poetry collections with visible hunger in his eyes.

When you interrupted him, he had shown no surprise at your outrageous proposal to "preserve some of the Sultan's essence for Lady Zazie." With perfect composure, he simply asked: "Why would I risk everything for your schemes or Lady Zazie's ambitions? What could a eunuch possibly gain?"

You had explained that afterward, Zazie would feign outrage and have her guards "execute" him, his body cast into the palace canals. The meaning had not been lost on him, though he had hesitated momentarily. "Time isn't on your side," you reminded him. "The Sultan's executioner arrives to perform his duties in seven days. After that, no matter how beautiful the verses, your mouth will only produce inarticulate screams."

With newfound resolve, he accepted, gambling his life for a chance at freedom: "Seven days. Remember this well. You have only that long for the Sultan to favor Queen Zazie. Let us hope the rumors of your influence over our sovereign's desires prove true."

Silent Torment
The eunuch stands tall and thin, his unnaturally pale skin bearing the distinctive lustre unique to his kind.

When you first approach, he completely ignores you, until you mention his name: "Swasar, isn't it?" He closes his book abruptly.

"Indeed, I am Savasar, and I can guess who sent you. Lady Zazie, that golden viper. I witnessed how she orchestrated old Baru's downfall. I'll have no part in her schemes - save your breath. I may be merely a eunuch while you command great power, but if I were to inform the Sultan of your secret dealings with Lady Zazie... My head would roll, certainly, but your suffering would last years. A worthwhile exchange, wouldn't you agree, my lord?"

After delivering this speech, he offers a perfunctory bow and returns to his reading, dismissing you entirely.
