Despite being married, Adila and Jabal still live in their own houses, exchanging polite greetings whenever their paths cross.
Speaking of the wedding, the young female warrior's voice turns emotional: "Turns out every woman in my family is like me... striving to become a warrior capable of slaying a dragon." She sighs, sprawling on the thick carpet with her legs stretched out. "My grandmother, mother, and aunts all failed, unable to withstand the pressure and lacking the combat strength... then they married. Several unmarried aunts died on their dragon-slaying quests – as a child, I thought they had eloped!"
"Truly incredible," Jabal says with genuine admiration.
"Hmm... Mother said she didn't want me to actually slay a dragon because it meant death, but she felt it would be a tremendous honor if her daughter could kill one – that's why she was always so conflicted about it. The dragon must have known mothers would always protect their children. That's why the curse works like this, right?"
"But the dragon never expected someone like you." Jabal nods at Adila's muscles with admiration. "You're the strongest woman I've ever met."
"You're no slouch either, my husband." Adila turns to Jabal with a grin. "Ready to hunt down a dragon?"
They share a knowing smile – the kind only warriors understand.
"So, is there anything I can help with?" you ask them.
Adila lists out what they need to slay the dragon: besides her family's ancestral quenched mithril longsword, they need fireproof gear and special harpoons to keep the dragon from escaping. But before all that, she says, the most important thing is finding the dragon's lair. The location is written in her ancestors' journals, but the crucial details are all in code...
Adila's cheeks flush. "I still need some time to figure it out..."
Seeing her discomfort, you offer to study the book while they focus on what they do best.
Both warriors visibly relax at your suggestion. "Thank goodness," Adila laughs. "That thing gave me such headaches when they made me read it as a kid. My ancestors just couldn't write anything straight."
She hands you the book, promising they'll reward you generously after they succeed in slaying the dragon.
