Samir and his assistants are now buried under towering stacks of books, busy with "final collation"—the last step before any great work sees the light of day. If you can send literate helpers, the process could go much faster.

Samir comes to you, weary yet proud, carrying the compiled medical codex.
"From now on, physicians may turn to this book. It gathers the remedies of our time and the most effective cures against pestilence... This is my honor. At last, I have completed it. Truly, I never thought this day would come... Thank you, [player.name]" He smiles sincerely as he places the heavy volume into your hands.
"To be honest, I never imagined this work would bring me such joy... When I was a boy, my father forced me to write these entries—if I erred, he would strike me with a whip, or leave me without food... Back then, I hated him, and I hated this codex. Why else would I have run away?" A shadow crosses his face. Then he shakes his head. "...No matter. That is all behind me."

He gestures for you to open the frontispiece. There, a line of small script reads: "To the one who gave everything. To Kapar."
"Even if I write his name here, it makes no difference. The Sultan will never remember the slave he once gave away, nor the man who died because of me..." Samir smiles with gentle longing. "I know it is a small thing—but still, I must do it. I want others to remember him... His name was Kapar."

Samir then hands you a letter. He urges you to read. It is the confession of an elder sharing his surname, who speaks of his fury at a son who betrayed the family. That anger, mixed with years of poverty, curdled into murder. He describes how he sought out a stillborn child, bribed a servant to bury it in the harem, and longed for his own son to be executed by the Sultan's hand.
When you lift your eyes from the page, Samir is watching you. Quietly, he says, "I still do not know whether it was his doing or that of my kinsmen... But in truth, it no longer matters. I owe them nothing now. Submit it to the Sultan—this should satisfy all parties."
He bows, then departs. You do not stop him. You know what he needs now is solitude.
