The Whole Story
Asal comes to offer his apology. From the courtyard gate he drops to his knees and shuffles forward. It's the highest etiquette of apology—or rather, the posture of the guilty.

"I have come to lay everything bare. I used your kindness, your power, your courage." Kneeling before you, he began to confess.
He has known from the start that "Ambiguities" was a conduit used by an otherworldly thing to select vessels. He himself had read it, but was not chosen. Still, he needs to see what the Lord of Revels truly is, for only what is seen with one's own eyes may be written into the encyclopedia... so he used you.
"The Encyclopedia has been the life's work of my family," he continued, voice low. "It is meant to encompass all things—but only what the compiler has witnessed firsthand. Hearsay holds no place within it."
You pause, remembering the old reverence for knowledge that once ran through this land—though the Sultan's rule has long since eroded it. You've heard whispers of this Encyclopedia: a feat no one has yet achieved, the white jewel atop the tower of scholarship, the very limit of a seeker's reach.
"Now I have done what no one else could," he said. "I can write the entry for the Lord of Revels with pride. No one knows this being as I do. The creature I set down will become the creature the world knows."
His head bows lower, forehead touching the stone at your feet. "In my hunger, I drag you into this peril. This is a crime worthy of death. I accept whatever punishment you decree. Even if you choose to kill me, I will die fulfilled—for I have borne witness to knowledge no mortal has ever known."
Extra
He faces death calmly, only regretting that he couldn't finish his encyclopedia. After he dies, you search his body and find a small bundle—apparently a gift, prepared as atonement for the debt he owes you.

The thirst for knowledge is not a sin, and battling otherworldly things... can hold its own grim pleasures.
Even as you speak, you warn him sharply: you hate being manipulated. He could have come straight to you, and you would have helped anyway, because you understand the compulsion to witness the truth.
Asal remains on his knees, shoulders trembling. "I... I never expected this. Lord [player.name], that you could understand..." His voice cracks, an almost subterranean sob. "I don't know what to say... I'm so grateful my folly didn't harm you... I'm so lucky."
He retrieves a book from his chest and offers it to you. Still kneeling, he retreats backward, never lifting his gaze, until he is outside the residence. His worn knees leave a streak of blood across your floor.
