Perhaps, once, this could have been a better choice. But through your folly, you have lured the divine into this world.
Consumed by envy, by greed, by madness, they could not bear the thought of a mortal claiming this treasure. And so they tore you apart.

Aether, diamond dust, and the palm of your hand. The Dragon's Eye gleams beneath your touch, its light focusing into a passage to a world unborn. The singular point from which all things emerge. And now, it rests within your eyes.

Did you foresee this? Or was it simply loyalty? No one knows, not even the gods, except yourself.
When you showed the light within the Dragon's Eye to that dark True God, they unleashed an infinite hunger. An infinite power.
A world not yet born. A blank page, unwritten, uncolored. By creating a new world, they would prove themself equal to the Creator. No, they would even surpass their own maker!
Before that passage of light, your god shoved you aside. They could not wait and thrust their entire being into that gate. This was the hoard of a world-shaping being, matter and power amassed since time immemorial. You watched as they stretched the passage to the new world to their limit, leaving no gap untouched. A vast, relentless tide surged through, violent and corrupting, bent on claiming the treasure you had fought so hard to find.
And then, as if angered by such a crude intrusion, the Dragon's Eye came alive, its slit pupil narrowing in displeasure. It was a gaze sharp enough to pierce through worlds. A blade hidden in the most inviting of wombs. Was this the dragon? The Creator themself? Or... a trap, set for a greedy god?
Your god screamed, wailed, helplessly watching their entire existence impaled upon that god-slaying edge.
As if by instinct, you reached out. The Dragon's Eye shattered in an instant. And the blood of the god, the power, the dominion, all of it began to merge into the halo of Apotheosis forming behind you.

From that moment on, peace returned to your heart.

The great God of Darkness arrived first. They are always one step ahead of the Purist. When you showed them the light within the Dragon's Eye, a tremor of excitement passed through your mind. They praised your devotion, promising infinite rewards in their new world. How strange! Your god was suddenly speaking to you with such kindness.
And of course, the Purist came too.
They took turns seducing you. Promising. Showing. And while you lost yourself in their visions, they quietly invaded your soul, stretching their tendrils toward the Dragon's Eye, toward that passage of light to a new world. A game played on the board of your flesh, your soul. With every piece they moved, they polluted you, erased you, and tormented you. Their goal was not to defeat each other, for they knew well that millennia of strife had brought them no closer to victory. Instead, they vied to see who could break you first, hoping to claim the treasure with your help.
And then you couldn't take it anymore. In your agony, you slammed the Dragon's Eye against your skull, forcing the purifying light and corrupting shadow both into the radiance of that newborn world.
The moment the passage opened, the two gods abandoned you. They hurled themselves through the gateway with all the force they could muster, too swift for hesitation, too swift for thought, driven only by the fear that their ancient foe might arrive first. This was the full might of two great beings who had shaped the world themselves, every shred of matter and power amassed since time immemorial... You watched as they stretched the passage to its limits, leaving not a crack, like a vast and matchless spiral torrent embodying both creation and destruction.
Time slowed to a crawl, as if everything had come to a halt. And suddenly, a lightness you had never known bestowed upon you. Not just the pain of the gods' torment, but so many more burdens lifted from you. Weights you had carried for so long you'd forgotten they were there — the whole of the Sultan's Game. All the responsibilities, the obligations, and of course, every scrap of power, all slipped away from you...
"Finally. It's done. You've earned your rest."
When did it arrive? That sheep, the one in Hassan's arms. The presence that helped you restart, again and again, was standing beside you. Together you floated in the void, watching the two gods wrestle, struggle, slowly force themselves through the passage that the Dragon's Eye had become.
The gods screamed and wailed, helpless as they collided, writhed, and fought, only to be carved into pieces by that edge... then, bit by bit, absorbed into the primordial singularity at the passage's end.
"Ahhh... the blood of Light, the flesh of Darkness... the spiral dance of creation and destruction..." The Lamblet hummed, delighted. "A true new world is about to be born..."

In a dark room, with no one watching, you cast your soul into the light. You slip free of flesh and become a small, fading mote, drifting through the void toward that final shore.
And then, like a grain of sand caught in an eye, the great dragon's pupil stirs again. From across the void, it turns toward you with a glance that means something.
They say dragons wander from world to world. Will you meet it someday, in your own small domain? It doesn't matter anymore. You have no divine power. Nothing needed to make a world. Only the wish to be still...

Darkness gathered. Layer upon layer, closing in. Was this caution? Trust? Or something carefully planned? A cry of shock escaped her.
You walked in without hurry, taking in the sight of the Dragon's Eye slowly crumbling to pieces and Mahir standing there at a loss: "I swear I didn't do anything! It just suddenly..."
You smiled. Just as you thought: a trap capable of killing even gods. But now... you reached for the Dragon's Eye. The blood of the god, the power, the dominion, all of it began to merge into the halo of Apotheosis forming behind you. "Mahir. Well done. The experiment is a success." "This is my first step upward. Then, without a sound, the laboratory roof suddenly dissolved. No flash of light, no burst of heat, just a quiet, simple collapse into a puddle of murky sludge.
Looking up, you saw a gaping hole torn through the clouds. You were already thinking: what kind of omen could you sell the Sultan? Something auspicious? Something divine? But then Mahir came running out, beaming. "I did it! I only meant to infuse some fire elementals, but something greater helped me load the weapon! It's practically limitless now!" You don't know exactly what happened in there. But apparently... Mahir succeeded.

For a day and a night, Mahir never left her laboratory. She even barred the servants you sent, those bringing water, food, even those coming to empty her chamber pot. Finally, on the second morning, you couldn't contain yourself any longer. You came yourself, men in tow, to see what in the nine hells Mahir was up to.
You were pounding on her door, calling her name, when you saw the laboratory roof swing open. A hot-air balloon rose slowly from within, and suspended beneath it: a box fitted with great lenses, turning with the wind, refracting the Dragon's Eye at its center into light that shifted and shimmered a thousand ways.
You knew, instantly, something was wrong. Without a second thought you smashed through a window and charged inside. Mahir was gazing up at the sky, like a mother watching her child. Before you could even draw your sword to demand answers, she began to explain:
"Lord [player.name]... You're truly the most remarkable person I've ever known. You're sharp, you know just what to say, you're brave... and you're a great one! You told me the Dragon's Eye would be a symbol of power. That's how you great ones are: you see something fine and you want it all for yourselves. That's what you call power!"
She paced slowly, step by step, until she stood beneath the open roof, almost dissolving into the dawn light. "But an artisan is different. The knowledge we gain, the inventions we make... the more people share them, the stronger we become! That's our power!" And with that, she raised her head. She gazed at the light pouring down, embraced it. In an instant, her soul was gone. She crumpled to the ground like wet clay.
Instinct took over. You rushed to her, reaching for her, already opening your mouth to call for guards, servants. But when you spun around, stricken, the courtyard was littered with bodies. Every last one of your attendants lay sprawled on the ground, felled by that uncanny light.
You couldn't help yourself and looked up. The great balloon had already risen high. Morning light streamed through its lenses, into the Dragon's Eye, and then out again, cascading over the earth as dazzling rainbow radiance. And in that light, you saw them. So many people. All drawn upward, soaring toward the heights, toward the sun, toward a peaceful realm where strife could never reach.
And in that light, you saw happiness.

The next day, Mahir came to you in tears. She'd failed, she sobbed, wasted so much money, so many materials, paid such a price, and all for nothing. You scrambled up from your carpet to look at the Dragon's Eye, now transformed almost beyond recognition with metal wires and runes.
"According to my calculations, this thing, it can unlock the Dragon's Eye's power. Send the realities we don't want to a world that hasn't been born yet. Of course, there are limits... For example, if I make a small mistake in an experiment, I could press this button and undo it. Let the experiment continue as if nothing happened..."
Isn't that incredible? Godlike power, Mahir! But before you could even praise her, she burst into fresh tears. "But once I use this device, the failed reality just... disappears. I have no way of knowing whether the experiment actually went smoothly, or whether the device did its work! Only a god can see the dice they rolled. Only a storyteller knows the story's been retold. It's cheating, that's what it is: a cheater's device! I gained power beyond any god, but the gods won't let me know if I truly have it!"
You soothed her as best you could. Ordered servants to bring her something warm and sweet to drink, told her to rest for a day. As for you? Well. The great Lord [player.name] rather liked the look of this new invention. Thought you might take it to your study for a closer look.

When you saw Mahir again, she was a wreck: hollow-eyed, gaunt, aged a decade overnight. The entire laboratory was carpeted in sheets scrawled with symbols and numbers, records of her experiments projecting light into the Dragon's Eye and observing what came back. "I have to tell you this. Anyone else would think I'd lost my mind, and honestly, I think I actually might be losing it. What this Dragon's Eye revealed is just... unbelievable!" She rifled through the mountain of papers and pulled out a diagram covered in concentric circles. "Our world is repeating! I observed our own timeline in the void reflected by the Dragon's Eye! It keeps looping, like a twisted knot! How have I never felt it before?" Oh. Is that all? Honestly, you could've figured that out without spending all this money and effort. These technical types do love to make a fuss over nothing... Ah well. Leave it to the great Lord [player.name] to bear this burden alone. "Of course! You accept it so easily!" Seeing your calm composure, Mahir perked up a little. "But I did find something interesting: through mathematical calculation, this loop can be broken. It's not a dead knot. There's a trigger condition. Once it's fulfilled, the timeline will heal itself... Amazing, isn't it? This Dragon's Eye is both the origin and the end!" Lost in her theories and speculations, Mahir's passion reignited. She gestured wildly as she spoke: "If we could strike the Dragon's Eye with two incredibly powerful, utterly opposing forces... Strike it at the point where our world tangles with that other world entangled with us, we might be able to shatter the whole model! But I have no idea where to find energy on that scale. Probably not even if I stole every last drop of Aether from the church... And even if it worked, if it actually broke the loop, or rather, healed it, no one would ever know it happened! Isn't that infuriating? This is how the gods toy with our fates!" She spoke without knowing, but her words stirred something complicated in you. Those loops. Those flashes, again and again... Suddenly, you understood. You reached into the Dragon's Eye, as if it was just a bubble, a phantom. Along the pathways Mahir had calculated, you quietly made a small alteration to the cycle you'd lived through so many times before: A hidden entry got unlocked in the Fate's Ledger. Next time, you could take the key into your own hands.

The next day, Mahir came bouncing in to see you, grinning ear to ear, laden with gifts. The kind of gifts that usually required you to give her piles of money and vats of Aether to produce.
"Great Lord [player.name], I remember you said I could decide for myself how to use the Dragon's Eye. Is that still true?" The moment you nodded, she crushed you in a hug so tight you could barely breathe. "I asked myself what I truly wanted. And you know what I realized? We shouldn't rush to turn the Dragon's Eye into some kind of tool. Give me ten years. Twenty. I know I can unlock all its secrets! Think of the achievement... it would be magnificent!" You'd never seen her this happy. Before she could start covering you in kisses, you shooed her out the door and turned your attention to the gifts she'd brought. Hmph. Probably made with your money anyway. Truth? The fate of the world? Right now, you'd rather have another Big Bomb.
